COLIC ALERT!!

During the winters months many cases of colic can easily be prevented simply by providing an adequate water source.

To ensure your horse is well hydrated follow these tips:

Ensure fresh clean water is available at all times
Ensure the container holding the water is clean
Ensure the water does not freeze and is at a temperature accepted by your horse (not too cold or too warm)
Snow is NOT an adequate water source. If your horse has only snow as a water source he will ‘eat’ only half of what his body actually needs.

Translation: your horse cannot consume enough snow to meet his hydration needs and will be at risk for colic.
