Colic Aftercare Instructions
- Offer free choice water, one bucket cold and one bucket of warm in case your horse has a preference.
- No hay or grain for 24 hours
- Walk every hour for 10-15 minutes if horse is comfortable. If horse is attempting to go down, continue walking and call your veterinarian
- Re-introduce small amounts of hay as the oil starts to appear in the manure (not before 24 hours)
- Keep horse warm and dry
- If the horse wants to lie quietly, that is okay. If he wants to roll, get him/her up and walking.
- Do not bed on straw for this time period as the horse may eat the straw.
- Check on the horse frequently throughout the night.
